Ministries and positions

Ministries are your serving teams; positions are the roles inside them.

Ministries are the teams that serve during events: Praise Band, Media, Hospitality. Each ministry contains positions (the roles to fill, like Lead Guitar or Sound Tech) and volunteers (the people who can fill them). You manage ministries in Settings, then Planning Config, on the Ministries tab. Requires the Manage ministries permission.

What a ministry holds

  • Positions. The roles that appear on every event's Ministries tab, waiting to be filled.
  • Available people. The volunteers who show up first in the assignment list for this ministry's positions. Search your contacts and add them here.
  • Ministry planners. Contacts who may assign volunteers for this ministry even without the church-wide Plan events permission. Use this to let a worship leader run their own team.
  • Available for event types. Which event types this ministry serves at. A ministry only appears on events of the types it is linked to, so your Youth team does not clutter Sunday planning.

The built-in ministries

Church Planner seeds two system ministries, Service (with Speaker and Service Leader positions) and Worship (with a Worship Leader position). These power the position alerts that tell subscribers who is leading, speaking, and leading worship. You can rename them, but they cannot be deleted, and neither can their system positions.
