Keys and transposing

Set a default key, override it per service, and transpose on the fly.

Three places a key lives

  1. The song's default key, set in the song editor. This is the key the chart is written in.
  2. The key for one service. When a song is added to an order of service, the planner can pick a different key just for that event. The set list shows the key beside each song, so musicians know before rehearsal. See Service schedule and set lists.
  3. The key on screen. Anyone viewing a chart can transpose their own view without changing the song.

Transposing a chart

Open a song's preview. The toolbar gives you:

  • Up and down arrows to move a semitone at a time.
  • Jump to key to go straight to the key you want.
  • A sharps/flats toggle (Auto, Sharps, Flats) so the chart spells chords the way your musicians read them.
  • Font size controls for stage or stand use.

Transposing works on any text chart (ChordPro, OnSong, or chord over lyric). PDF charts are fixed images, so they cannot be transposed.
